'Nothing changes regarding the economic program. We will see the result, but it doesn't modify the band scheme at all,' the minister assured

The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, voted this Sunday in Palermo as part of the national legislative elections and, upon leaving the polling station, assured that the Government's economic program will not undergo changes after the elections.

“Nothing changes regarding the economic program. We will see the result, but it doesn't modify in any way either the band scheme or the goal of fiscal balance,” stated the official, reaffirming the continuity of the stabilization plan designed together with President Javier Milei.

The dollar will remain within the bands

Caputo explained that the exchange rate will continue to operate within the managed float scheme, one of the pillars of the current monetary policy. “The dollar will always remain within the bands; it may stay lower, but always within the bands,” he pointed out.

The minister insisted that the Government will maintain fiscal discipline and that there will be no structural changes in the economic roadmap. “I understand people's expectations, but Monday will be just another day. There will not be any change,” he emphasized.

When asked about the statements of the United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, Caputo clarified that he has not had recent conversations with him, although he reiterated that relations with Washington remain “very good and stable”.

The head of the Treasury highlighted that the Government “is fulfilling the mandate for change” that society voted for in 2023. “We know it is a difficult path, but it is the right one. The other path was the one that left us with a heavy legacy,” he said.

Caputo emphasized the need for Congress to support the pending structural reforms, including labor and tax reforms, which he described as essential for generating sustained growth.

“Those reforms will make the country take off, because people can't wait any longer. That will generate more jobs and better wages,” he stated.

He also anticipated that the new Congress will be more favorable to the Executive's initiatives. “Hopefully we can move something forward in these two months; if not, we will have to wait a little longer, but the country needs to move forward,” he added.

“We must be respectful of the markets”

The minister stressed the importance of maintaining predictability and dialogue with financial markets. “I am not going to say that volatility is over, but with less political conflict there will be more stability. We must be very respectful of the markets,” he noted.

Caputo avoided giving details about possible changes in his team after Pablo Quirno's departure to the Foreign Ministry, although he indicated that “the idea is to maintain the good relationship between both areas”.

Finally, he assured that there are no plans for a new “Ley Bases 2,” and that he would have no problem attending Congress to present the 2026 Budget, reaffirming his commitment to transparency and institutional dialogue.
