The defender, who until now could only play in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Argentina, was authorized after the submission of the injured teammate's medical documentation
Before the match against River in the quarterfinals of the Copa Argentina, Racing received news it had been waiting for a long time: Marcos Rojo is now cleared to play in the 2025 Torneo Clausura.
The AFA approved the defender's registration after the club submitted medical documents certifying the withdrawal of a player from the squad, whose name was not disclosed, which allowed a roster spot to be freed up. Until now, the former Boca and Estudiantes player was only eligible to play in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Argentina, having played only two matches (both against Peñarol in the round of 16 of the continental tournament).
Rojo solo podía jugar Libertadores y Copa Argentina
With this decision, Gustavo Costas will be able to count on him for the six remaining matchdays of the regular phase of the domestic tournament, where Academia is in 12th place in Zone A with 11 points (outside the qualification spots), and for as far as the team advances in the play-offs if it qualifies.
Will Rojo start against River?
Despite the added intrigue of the former Xeneize defender playing against Millonario, everything seems to indicate that Costas would choose Nazareno Colombo in the starting XI for today's match at 6:00 p.m. at the Gigante de Arroyito in Rosario.
Meanwhile, Rojo will be on the bench, although he will be one of the most closely watched presences of the night due to his recent past at the Ribera club, along with Maximiliano Salas, who was recently added to the Núñez team directly from Academia.
