Máxima of the Netherlands returned to Seville: the place where her love with King Willem was born
The queen returned to the Feria de Abril in Seville, where she met the king in 1999, accompanied by her mother
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands returned to Seville to participate in a new edition of the traditional Feria de Abril. Her presence in the city did not go unnoticed, although this time she chose to maintain a more discreet profile than in previous years.
It was the mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, who revealed the visit by posting an image with the queen on his social media. "Seville enchants, even more so during the Feria de Abril. An affair that Queen Máxima proudly carries. Here she met King Willem and today she has returned to visit us," the official stated.
A return filled with emotions
Máxima's visit was not just any visit. She returned to the city that changed her life in 1999, when she met Willem at a fair booth. That spark marked the beginning of a love story that later led to marriage and a new life as queen consort.
This year, the monarch was accompanied by her mother, María del Carmen Cerruti Carricart.Unlike in 2019, when she celebrated the 20th anniversary of that meeting with a horse-drawn carriage appearance alongside her husband and their three daughters —all dressed in flamenco attire—, this time she opted for a more intimate visit.

According to the newspaper El Mundo, the queen shared a lunch with Simoneta Gómez-Acebo, cousin of King Felipe VI, and other well-known figures from the Seville scene such as businessman Rosauro Varo —partner of actress Amaia Salamanca— and bullfighter Miguel Báez "El Litri."
Close ties with Spain

The relationship of the Dutch royal family with Spain has strengthened in recent years thanks to various visits. In 2023, Máxima and Willem traveled to Jerez de la Frontera to attend the wedding of the Duchess of Medinaceli, reinforcing their ties with the Spanish aristocracy.
Their eldest daughter, Princess Amalia, also maintained a close connection with the country. She lived for a time in Madrid, where she studied and received protection from threats from her country. In gratitude, last month she planted a tulip garden in front of the Royal Palace.
With her return to Seville, Máxima reconnected with her personal history and with a country she feels increasingly close to. This time, away from the flashes, she opted for intimacy and memories.
