The phrase printed on the Kirchnerist leader's T-jersey was read as a warning to the governor

Máximo Kirchner once again marked his territory within Buenos Aires Province Peronism with a symbolic gesture aimed at his rival inside the space. During the meeting of the Justicialist Party Council in the province of Buenos Aires, the deputy appeared wearing a T-jersey that did not go unnoticed and that was read behind closed doors as a direct message to the sector that answers to Governor Axel Kicillof.
The phrase printed on the garment —“They play at me first, and then also at me”— belongs to a song by Indio Solari, but in the political context of the meeting it took on a much more down-to-earth interpretation: an internal warning amid the fierce dispute for control of Buenos Aires Province PJ and the electoral structure heading into 2027.
Máximo junto a su condenada madre, Cristina Kirchner,
The episode took place during the summit held in Malvinas Argentinas, where it was finally agreed that March 15 will be the date to renew the party authorities. Although there was public talk of progress toward a possible “unity slate”, the scene made it clear that the truce, if it exists, is more rhetorical than real.
Within PJ, the T-jersey was interpreted as an implicit criticism of the Movimiento Derecho al Futuro (MDF), the space that promotes Kicillof together with mayors who demand greater political prominence and autonomy in relation to hardline Kirchnerism. The reading was unanimous among leaders: Máximo Kirchner is not willing to give up control without putting up a fight.
The agreement to set a date was neither casual nor peaceful. Kirchner's mandate at the head of Buenos Aires Province PJ had expired days earlier and the lack of definitions opened the door to a possible judicial intervention. That institutional clock forced a minimal understanding, although it did not solve the underlying conflict.
In that context, names began to circulate to head a possible slate. Among them were the mayor of Lomas de Zamora, Federico Otermín, and the vice governor Verónica Magario. In earlier stages, Minister Andrés “Cuervo” Larroque, another trusted leader of the governor, had also been mentioned.
MDF is already preparing for an open primary. During the meeting, its members celebrated having obtained the digital credentials needed to register their own party members, a key step in case there is no synthesis. However, that process will have to be validated by the party congress chaired by Fernando Espinoza, another central player in the negotiation.
Máximo Kirchner con la polémica remera.
Agustina Vila attended the meeting as an envoy from the provincial Executive, although her role was blurred by formal affiliation issues. Kirchnerism took advantage of those administrative errors to lay down the law for the governor's structure.
Although people close to Máximo Kirchner insist that “there is a predisposition toward unity”, the response from the other side was much more blunt: there is no unity if the leadership logic doesn't change. Buenos Aires Province Peronism remains trapped in its eternal internal struggle, more concerned with who is in charge than with offering an "alternative" to its voters.
