Máximo Kirchner will face his first trial for money laundering alongside his mother

Máximo Kirchner will face his first oral trial starting on October 23, accused of money laundering and organized crime in the case Los Sauces along with his mother, Cristina Kirchner, Lázaro Báez, Cristóbal López, and Fabián De Sousa, among other defendants. The Justice system will seek to determine whether the rental income from properties owned by the Kirchner family was used to channel funds from alleged prior crimes.

For the current national deputy, it will be his first experience in the defendant's chair during an oral debate, after years of judicial investigation into the family businesses. Máximo is charged in Los Sauces for having been part of the board of directors of the Kirchner companies involved in the operations that will be analyzed during the trial.

The company Los Sauces S.A. was created in November 2006 by Néstor Kirchner, Cristina Kirchner, and Máximo Kirchner and began billing years later through the rental of various properties. According to the accusation, between 2009 and 2016, companies linked to Báez and the Indalo Group paid $25,968,042.30, equivalent to approximately 88% of the family firm's revenue.

The hypothesis that will go to trial holds that these real estate contracts would have served as a means to transfer money to the Kirchner family companies under the guise of legitimate business operations. In particular, the investigation analyzes payments related to properties rented by companies of Báez and Cristóbal López and seeks to establish whether there was a connection between those funds and benefits previously obtained by the businessmen.

The process will be overseen by the Federal Oral Court No. 5 and will take place in person in Comodoro Py, with hearings on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The court even authorized the Saturdays of October 24 and 31 and part of the judicial recess in January to maintain the continuity of the debate.

Máximo Kirchner's judicial situation will not end there. The judges decided to separate Los Sauces from Hotesur, another case in which he is also accused and whose trial will begin on March 19, 2027, just a few months after the start of the first process.

In Hotesur, the accusation focuses on payments made by Báez's companies through the hiring of rooms in hotels owned by the Kirchner family that, according to the prosecution, were allegedly not used.

The two cases had been treated jointly for years, but the court decided to separate them considering that they have different procedural objects and that keeping them together could extend the debate for more than two years.

Thus, Máximo Kirchner will enter a new judicial stage on October 23, this time sitting for the first time before an oral court to respond to the accusations made in Los Sauces, with a second trial already scheduled for 2027.
