Despite the sustained demand from the fans for a definitive expansion of La Bombonera, the Boca management continues to opt for partial interventions that barely modify the structure of the stadium. In recent hours, the club announced a new renovation in the lower tier, a project that once again puts up for debate the course chosen by the administration led by Juan Román Riquelme.

The project includes the creation of a gastronomic patio in section L, intended for the season ticket holders in that area, along with the construction of new restrooms and improvements to the access points. As a central point, the intervention will allow the addition of only 180 new seats, a number that is marginal compared to the historic demand from members who are left out match after match, bringing the total capacity to 57,380.

The initiative doesn't represent a novelty in terms of planning. Boca will replicate the model already applied in the middle tier, where a food court was inaugurated and conceived as a relaxation space inside the stadium. Although a specific date for the start of the work has not yet been announced, the club assures that it will begin in the short term.

In parallel, the management is also planning a renovation of the main hall of La Bombonera, with a redesign of the central entrance and the installation of a restaurant from the Hard Rock chain. The establishment will have an entrance from the sidewalk into the interior of the stadium and will offer a direct view of the field, reinforcing a logic more closely linked to services and experiences than to a structural solution to the capacity issue.

Despite these improvements, the contrast with what is happening across the street is inevitable. While Boca announces projects that barely add space, River recently presented a new mega-project at the Monumental that will include an expansion and the roofing of the stadium, increasing its capacity by 16,000 spectators and taking it to 101,000.

In that context, La Bombonera remains a symbol that is as powerful as it is limited, and the question once again arises among Boca fans: How long will Boca postpone a thorough expansion while its projects merely put makeup on a structural problem? Is it a sign of the management's inability or is it an intentional decision?
