The Argentine Federal Police and the National Immigration Directorate carried out an important population and immigration control operation this Friday in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, one of the areas with the highest circulation of immigrants and informal commerce in the City of Buenos Aires.

The deployment took place at Paseo la Estación, a shopping gallery located just a few meters from the train terminal, where federal agents and immigration personnel set up a large operation to identify individuals with irregular residency, criminal records, or possible links to illegal activities.

The procedure included instant biometric checks using fingerprint scanners. Each person present at the location had to place both hands on the device, which cross-referenced the data in real-time with national police and immigration databases.

To prevent escapes or evasions, authorities closed two of the three exits of the gallery and cordoned off the interior with security tape, concentrating all movement in and out at the central point of the operation. An escalator was also blocked to reinforce internal control of the premises.

The procedure aimed to detect undocumented foreigners, individuals with illegal residency in the country, and possible irregularities related to businesses selling imported goods without the corresponding documentation. Most of those present cooperated normally during the checks, although an isolated incident of resistance was recorded when a woman began to shout against the operation and claimed that the authorities “have no right” to control her.

From the national government, it was emphasized that those who remain illegally in Argentina or commit crimes will be expelled and banned from re-entering the country. Authorities stated: “A foreigner who commits a crime or remains in the country illegally will be expelled and will not be able to return to Argentina.” They also called for anonymous reports through line 134 to report cases of illegal immigration or related criminal activities.

The procedure is part of a series of operations that the national government has been conducting in various points of the Metropolitan Area with a strong presence of illegal immigration and informal commerce. A few weeks ago, similar checks were carried out in Flores and Liniers, where there were arrests and individuals detected with irregular residency.
