Metro 95.1 ran out of advertising and canceled all its programming: Cayetano's farewell

The host confirmed the end of Metro and criticized the decision to turn the station into a music-focused one

The news that until a few days ago was circulating as a rumor has become reality. Nicolás "Cayetano" Cajg confirmed that Radio Metro 95.1 has canceled all its programming and will become an exclusively music station.

The host of No trates de entenderlo used social media to address listeners, express his discomfort, and say goodbye to the radio station where he had worked for years.

An announced ending for Metro 95.1

"The Metro we all knew is coming to an end.  We'll be here for one more week. Obviously, it wasn't the best time of the year nor the best way, but it happened. I wasn't surprised or outraged, it happens in the media and in other jobs as well. For some people who were still here, it was a relief; in other cases, a sadness," Cayetano said in his statement.

The journalist acknowledged that the decision affected each member of the staff differently: "Each case was different, some had more jobs, others didn't. Life..." He also added an emotional review of the names that shaped the station's history: "Fernando Peña, Juan Castro, Andy Kusnetzoff, Matías Martin, María O'Donnell, and Juan Pablo Varsky were here, and they were the ones who built this radio station with their talent in the 2000s. All of them and others I forget, like Seba De Caro. And many from production, like Nico Artusi."

The legacy and what's to come

Cayetano didn't hide that the ending was expected: "Given how the last few years have been, it was a somewhat predictable ending. However, I would say it to the appropriate person's face. That part wasn't for the air. It had to be said to the listeners, to give them a free hand. Now, yes, whenever they wanted, they could listen to other shows, other stations, but not yet," he stated.

Metro 95.1 began broadcasting on February 2, 1998, and marked an era with shows like Basta de Todo, Perros de la Calle, and Metro y Medio. However, in 2021, a major split occurred when Andy Kusnetzoff, Sebastián Wainraich, and María O'Donnell, among others, left the station to join Urbana Play.

Currently, Cayetano was hosting No trates de entenderlo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Jesicall and Martín Reich, one of the last original shows still on the air.
