Michael Bay returns to direct 'Transformers' and aims to break the box office again

Paramount is once again betting on Michael Bay, who is already working on a new film to revive the Transformers saga

Michael Bay is preparing for his return to the franchise of Transformers, aiming to reach a billion in box office revenue again. The director is once again betting on his explosive style to revive the Autobots and Decepticons on the big screen.

After his departure from the Transformers One project, which was left in the hands of another creative team, it has now been revealed that Bay is developing a new installment of the franchise with Paramount. For now, there are few details, but he has already made it clear that he wants to direct it himself.

Michael Bay returns to the Cybertron universe

The news came from Puck News, which confirmed that the filmmaker is working on a new movie within the Transformers universe. If it happens, it would be the first film directed by him since Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).

The director is ready to return to his signature style: giant robots, nonstop action, and visual effects that shake the screen. The goal, as always, is just one: to break the box office.

A criticized saga, but unbeatable in numbers

Although his movies were questioned by critics, Bay's saga was a resounding box office success. Transformers: Dark of the Moon grossed over 1.123 billion dollars, while Age of Extinction surpassed 1.1 billion.

The other installments were not far behind either, with figures ranging between 600 and 800 million. The formula, though repeated, continued to attract crowds of fans of pure spectacle.

Broken promises and an inevitable return

Bay had promised Steven Spielberg that he would not continue with the saga after the third movie. However, the numbers pushed him to go on: "The studio begged me to do a fourth... and it also made a billion," he confessed.

He later agreed to film a fifth, but at that point he had assured that he was stepping down. Today, everything indicates that temptation was stronger, and he is ready to return to directing with the intention of breaking his own record.
