While his future remains uncertain, the Colombian forward obtained Argentine citizenship and this could favor his contract renewal
Miguel Ángel Borja received news that benefits both him and River. The Colombian forward obtained Argentine citizenship and, once the process is officially registered with the Argentine Football Association (AFA), he will no longer occupy a foreign player slot on the professional roster.
The former Junior player has a contract until December, although there are still no decisions regarding his future. This development, however, could facilitate negotiations for a possible contract renewal, since it frees up a foreign player spot on the roster.
Borja began the naturalization process at the beginning of this year and, after fulfilling the requirement of two uninterrupted years of residency, he finally managed to complete the process. His case joins those of other foreign footballers who, over time, decided to settle permanently in the country.

The forward's future remains uncertain. In the last transfer window, Tigres de México showed strong interest in signing him, although negotiations did not progress. His excellent performance last season kept him as an important piece, but doubts about his future arose largely due to his most recent performances, with a considerable goal drought and being behind Salas, Driussi, and Colidio.
Now, with the acquisition of citizenship, the situation could change in his favor. No longer occupying a foreign player slot, spots that currently belong to Sebastián Boselli, Matías Galarza, Kevin Castaño, and Juanfer Quintero, gives him a key advantage in renewal talks.
Gallardo on Borja's future
After the defeat against Independiente Rivadavia in the Copa Argentina, the coach was asked about the future of several players, including Borja. His response was brief but forceful: "At the end of the year, we'll make the decisions we have to make, that's how it is. Period".
