Milei thanked Trump for his support: 'A new era of stability and freedom'

President Javier Milei used the social network X to publicly thank the support of the U.S. administration. "Thank you, President @POTUS and Secretary Scott Bessent, for your strong support and confidence in the Argentine people. We deeply value our friendship with the United States and your commitment to strengthening our partnership based on shared values. Together, we'll build a path of stability, prosperity, and freedom. MAGA!" he wrote.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo joined the message and stated: "Argentines, a new era begins. Let's all work together to make our country great again!" Both emphasized the importance of financial assistance to sustain economic stability in a challenging context.

Washington's announcements

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent detailed that a swap line for USD 20,000 million is being negotiated with Argentina through the Central Bank, in addition to the purchase of dollar-denominated bonds. He also indicated that the Treasury is prepared to grant a stand-by loan through the Exchange Stabilization Fund and that close coordination is underway with the Argentine government to avoid "excessive volatility" in the markets.

Bessent added that the aim is to end the tax exemption for raw material producers who convert foreign currency, in line with the goal of organizing financial flows and improving competitiveness.

Confidence in Milei's administration

The U.S. official praised the progress of the Argentine administration: "Under President Milei's administration, Argentina has taken important steps toward stabilization. It has achieved significant fiscal consolidation and broad liberalization of prices and restrictive regulations, laying the groundwork for the country's historic return to prosperity."

Meanwhile, Bessent highlighted that numerous American companies have already expressed interest in making direct investments in strategic sectors, provided that the political and economic environment remains stable.

Trump's political support

The Treasury Secretary also emphasized President Donald Trump's strong political support for the Argentine government, describing it as "unusual" for a foreign leader. "President Trump has given Milei extraordinary support, showing his confidence in his government's economic plans and in the strategic importance of the relationship between the United States and Argentina," he said.

Bessent announced that after the elections, joint efforts will be accelerated to ensure the payment of major financial obligations, within a framework of reinforced bilateral cooperation.
