Argentina
After strong support from Donald Trump, the Argentine president faces a key day in New York with a diplomatic, financial, and political agenda
Javier Milei is experiencing one of the most important days since he assumed the presidency.
In New York, he will present his vision at the United Nations General Assembly, meet with Kristalina Georgieva to discuss the extraordinary loan being negotiated with the United States, and end the day at the Atlantic Council Gala, where he will be honored with the Global Citizen Award presented by the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.
Milei at the UN
The Argentine president will deliver a speech critical of multilateralism and the UN's 2030 Agenda, which he has described as interventionist. In his address, he will discuss:
The dictatorships in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba.
The demand for the release of Jewish hostages held by Hamas.
Argentina's sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.
He will be accompanied in the chamber by Karina Milei, Luis Caputo, Gerardo Werthein, Luis Petri, and Manuel Adorni.

Milei and Georgieva will meet face to face to analyze the progress of the agreement with the IMF and the need to readjust targets, in parallel with negotiations in Washington for an extraordinary loan through the Exchange Stabilization Fund.
Although the IMF highlighted that Argentina has been meeting its fiscal and commercial commitments, the government is seeking new financial support to cover private debt maturities in 2025 and 2026. In this context, U.S. Treasury officials have reportedly raised the need to allow the dollar to float freely as a condition.
The international distinction
At night, Milei will be honored in Manhattan with the Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award, in recognition of the economic reforms he is promoting. Scott Bessent, Secretary of Donald Trump's Treasury, will be responsible for presenting the award and accompanying the Argentine president at the gala.

Bessent has made his commitment to Argentina clear: "We are willing to do whatever is necessary to support the country." He also acknowledged that Milei leads an unprecedented government and that he has the full support of the White House.
A key ally in Washington
The relationship with Bessent and with Trump gives Milei political and financial backing at a sensitive time for the local economy. Expectations are focused on the U.S. Treasury moving forward with direct assistance and enabling new investments to support Argentina's economic plan.
