The Ministry of Human Capital reported a strong improvement in poverty and extreme poverty levels
The government of Javier Milei, through the Ministry of Human Capital, reported a new decrease in poverty and extreme poverty indicators in Argentina, based on a projection prepared with official data.
According to the information presented, poverty levels continue to decline and show a significant reduction both in the year-on-year comparison and since the beginning of the libertarian administration.
According to the published estimate, poverty in Argentina stood at 27.5% during the third quarter of 2025, a figure that arises from a projection carried out by the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policies (CNCPS) based on the Income Distribution Report published by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC). The percentage represents a year-on-year drop of 10.8 percentage points in relation to the third quarter of 2024, when the indicator reached 38.3%.

The official statement also underscores the magnitude of the cumulative reduction since the change of government. In that regard, it was indicated that the total decrease since the beginning of President Javier Milei's administration reaches 27.3 percentage points, after a peak of 54.8% was recorded in the first quarter of 2024, in the midst of the severe economic crisis inherited from Kirchnerism.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Capital reported an improvement in extreme poverty levels. According to the official projection, extreme poverty stood at 5.4% during the third quarter of 2025, compared to 9.2% recorded in the same period of the previous year. This implies a year-on-year decrease of 3.8 percentage points.
The same statement specifies that the reduction in extreme poverty was even more pronounced if the beginning of the current national administration is taken as a reference. In this regard, it was stated: “Since the beginning of this administration, extreme poverty has fallen by 14.8 percentage points. That means that millions of people have left extreme poverty”.

The statement was accompanied by a slide that summarizes the main figures and highlights the decline in both poverty and extreme poverty. That graphic material states that the projection was prepared “based on data from the Income Distribution Report published by INDEC” and that it reflects continuity in the downward trend observed in recent quarters.
The Ministry of Human Capital emphasized that the published data reflect a sustained improvement in the main social indicators, both in year-on-year terms and since the beginning of the current administration, and it highlighted the impact that the reduction in extreme poverty has on the most vulnerable sectors of society.
