Milei's government implemented a 5.49% reduction in the price of gas.

This reduction will be reflected in the bills that users will start paying in October

The Government of Javier Milei announced a 5.49% reduction in the price of natural gas at the Entry Point to the Transportation System (PIST), which will apply to consumption from September 1, 2025.

The measure, established in Resolution 357/2025 of the Secretariat of Energy and published this Friday in the Official Gazette, will be reflected in the bills that users will begin to pay in October.

The National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) will be responsible for updating the tariff charts for the different user segments: residential, commercial, and industrial.

The official text instructs the agency to take the necessary steps so that the bills issued by gas providers and subdistributors throughout the country reflect the new value at the PIST, as well as the discounts provided for in Resolution No. 24 of January 29, 2025, also issued by the Secretariat of Energy.

In the recitals, the Executive emphasizes that this measure is part of a comprehensive policy of price and tariff updates in the energy sector, aimed at preserving stable real values in a context of decelerating inflation. At the same time, it seeks to ensure the sustainability of the energy system without passing on greater pressures to the costs faced by end users.

Milei Government's measures

Since taking office, the Government of Javier Milei has moved forward with a policy of tariff restructuring aimed at reducing subsidies and bringing the price of gas closer to real market values.

The central purpose of the measure was to attract investment in strategic infrastructure, particularly in the Vaca Muerta gas pipeline, in order to strengthen local production and reduce dependence on energy imports.

When the libertarian administration took office, users covered only 30% of the real cost of energy. Today, after the reduction of subsidies, demand already pays around 80% of the value.

The strategy not only sought to advance in the normalization of tariffs, but also to restore fiscal accounts. Energy subsidies, which during previous administrations had climbed to 2% of GDP and accumulated an unusual state expenditure close to 100 billion dollars, have now been reduced to 0.5% of GDP.
