Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection adds the Sub-Zero and Jax spin-offs

The new Legacy Kollection adds the Sub-Zero and Jax spin-offs, as well as online improvements and historical material

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection expands its content with the addition of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, two of the most controversial titles in the saga.

Both games, which at the time received mixed reviews, are joining a collection that aims to be the definitive historical capsule of the franchise.

Spin-offs that defined an era

The compilation, developed by Digital Eclipse, brings together games from the 1990s and 2000s adapted for modern consoles. Among them, the classic fighting games that brought worldwide fame to Mortal Kombat stand out, but it also includes different adventures that explore new mechanics.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997) combined side-scrolling with 3D environments and expanded the story of the popular Lin Kuei clan warrior.

Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (2000), meanwhile, focused on Jax with a 3D brawler style. The title went through a problematic development after co-creator John Tobias's departure and the removal of Sonya Blade as a playable character.

A collection with documentation and improvements

Legacy Kollection not only recovers the original gameplay, but also offers archival material and extensive documentation. Players will be able to access arcade, console, and handheld versions of Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 4, Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Special Forces, and Game Boy Advance installments.

In addition, the collection adds online multiplayer with rollback netcode, ensuring stable long-distance matches. It also includes an interactive documentary with concept art, exclusive interviews with Ed Boon and John Tobias, and archival videos.

Reactions and value for the community

The decision to add these less successful spin-offs reflects the intention to showcase all stages of Mortal Kombat, even those less celebrated. For veteran players, this is an opportunity to relive titles that are difficult to find. For new generations, the collection offers a complete journey through the origins of one of the most influential sagas in video game history.

With this proposal, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection positions itself as the most complete edition to date, combining nostalgia, documentation, and technical improvements that ensure a renewed experience.
