Mortal Kombat 2 has revealed its explosive trailer featuring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage
The sequel will once again be directed by Simon McQuoid
Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the first full trailer for Mortal Kombat 2, the direct sequel to the film released in 2021. The new preview recaptures the bloody, exaggerated, and self-aware essence of the franchise and anticipates a tone even closer to the spirit of the video games.
One of the most notable elements of the trailer is the introduction of Johnny Cage, one of the saga's most iconic characters, who will be played by Karl Urban, known for his role as Billy Butcher in The Boys. His addition was one of the most anticipated by fans after his absence in the first installment.

New characters, more fights, and a definitive tournament
The sequel will once again be directed by Simon McQuoid, while the script was written by Jeremy Slater, who worked on the series Moon Knight. This time, the story revolves around a new tournament organized by Shao Kahn, featuring classic figures such as Kitana, Jade, Baraka, and Kung Lao.
Just as happened with Cole Young in the 2021 film, Johnny Cage will be introduced from our reality into the Mortal Kombat universe, bringing his traditional arrogance and sarcastic humor to the group of heroes.

The trailer, just over two minutes long, shows one spectacular fight sequence after another, stylized fatalities, and graphic violence, although somewhat more restrained than in the games. The overall aesthetic keeps the absurd and visually loaded tone that characterizes the saga.
Release date and fan expectations
Mortal Kombat 2 will arrive in theaters on October 24, 2025, and is shaping up to be one of the year's major action releases. After a first film that caused mixed reactions, this sequel aims to double down on fidelity to the original material and offer a more solid experience for fans.

Karl Urban's addition as Johnny Cage could be a turning point for the franchise, which is betting on a consolidated cast, a renewed visual approach, and a narrative closer to the expectations of classic fighting video game fans.
