Sony strengthens PlayStation Plus with Mortal Kombat 1 and Spider-Man in August
PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium add 11 games in August, featuring Mortal Kombat 1, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and exclusive premieres
Sony has announced a major update for the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium plans, which will add 11 new titles starting August 19 for PS4 and PS5. Among them, Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel’s Spider-Man stand out, two high-impact productions joining alongside global premieres and renewed classics.
Additionally, Premium subscribers will have exclusive access to a five-hour early trial of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and to two iconic Resident Evil installments, reinforcing the unique value of this plan compared to the competition.
Mortal Kombat 1 and Spider-Man lead the update
The new offering includes renowned productions such as Mortal Kombat 1, arriving on PS5 with cinematic combat and a complete reinvention of its universe, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PS5 along with the Game of the Year Edition on PS4, allowing players to explore a hyper-realistic version of Manhattan.
The catalog also adds Sword of the Sea, the debut title from Matt Nava, creator of Journey, featuring mechanics inspired by skateboarding and snowboarding across desert landscapes.

Diversity of genres and support for the independent scene
The list is completed with offerings such as Unicorn Overlord and Atelier Ryza 3, two RPGs with strategic combat systems. Among the independent titles, Harold Halibut stands out, a hand-animated narrative adventure; Coral Island, a life and farming simulator; and Indika, a story exploring existential dilemmas in a surreal monastic setting. Earth Defense Force 6 rounds out the package with cooperative action against extraterrestrial threats.
Classics and benefits for Premium subscribers
PlayStation Plus Premium members will be able to relive the horror with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The addition of early trials, such as that of Death Stranding 2, sets a trend where the most anticipated releases arrive first to the higher-tier plans.

Strategy and player perceptions
This update reflects Sony's strategy of combining international hits with independent gems, maximizing the service's appeal. Although some players question the segmentation of benefits between Extra and Premium, early access and the exclusivity of certain titles could boost subscriptions in the short term.
In a context of intense competition among video game services, the August offering positions itself as one of the most comprehensive of the year, aiming to establish PlayStation Plus as one of the best options on the market.
