The 47-year-old driver was arrested in José Mármol. The 24-year-old victim remains hospitalized in critical condition
The Buenos Aires Province Police arrested Diego Alejandro Berges, 47 years old, in recent hours, accused of running over a cyclist in Banfield and fleeing without providing assistance. The arrest took place at a residence in José Mármol, Lomas de Zamora district.
The incident occurred last Saturday at the intersection of La Plata and Correa, in Villa Galicia. There, Jonathan Ismael Castillo Oviedo, 24 years old, was riding a bicycle when he was struck head-on by a black Citroën C3. The driver immediately fled the scene.
Security cameras recorded the moment when the cyclist tried to brake upon noticing the vehicle, but was still hit and thrown into the air. A neighbor urgently called 911, and the victim was transported in critical condition to Gandulfo Hospital.
The young cyclist remains in serious condition and the justice system is moving forward with the investigation
Castillo Oviedo remains hospitalized in serious condition and had to undergo surgery. His family reported that he suffered a skull fracture and will require facial reconstruction.

The investigation, led by Prosecutor Silvina Estévez of UFI No. 10 of Lomas de Zamora, included the analysis of private and municipal cameras that made it possible to identify the car's license plate. With that information, the justice system ordered a search in José Mármol, where the vehicle was seized with damage to the front part.
Berges was arrested and charged with serious negligent injuries. According to sources, he will be questioned during the morning.
