Municipal employee of Mendiolaza is under investigation for fraud involving licenses

The Municipality of Mendiolaza has opened an investigation into irregularities in the local Traffic Department. An employee allegedly facilitated driver's licenses for people who do not reside in the city. According to the complaint, the worker used his address to process documents for third parties without legal oversight.

The situation was discovered after receiving alerts from residents about suspicious activity related to obtaining licenses. Mayor Adela Arning indicated that the procedures were carried out rapidly and with modifications to the applicants' national ID cards. "We are extremely concerned; this is news that affects us greatly. We detected that this employee used his address, where people who do not reside in Mendiolaza changed their ID and immediately began the application process to obtain the license," she explained.

The accused also holds a position as an ATE delegate, which required requesting the removal of union protection to initiate disciplinary proceedings. Meanwhile, he was granted leave days to avoid interfering with the investigation. The municipality expects the judiciary to act swiftly to determine clear responsibilities and appropriate sanctions.

Falsification of addresses and possible irregularities in the electoral register

The investigation also detected false addresses in the electoral register, affecting at least 50 people linked to municipal employees. Ten addresses are being reviewed where manipulation is suspected to have favored third parties in official procedures. The municipality will continue its administrative investigation while the judicial case progresses.

Arning stated that the measures aim to ensure transparency and prevent this type of irregularity from recurring. The Municipality is analyzing internal protocols to strengthen controls over license procedures and the accuracy of applicants' data. Speed in the investigation is key to regaining the community's trust and protecting the integrity of the institution.

The employee's actions constitute a clear abuse of his position, violating legality and affecting public trust. Manipulating addresses and expediting procedures irregularly demonstrates negligence and a lack of professional ethics.
