The city government imposes million-dollar fines and control operations that stifle the freedom to work

Córdoba municipality has launched a series of operations aimed at punishing workers who provide transportation services through platforms. This offensive is based on an ordinance approved in August 2025 that forces drivers to submit to a strict municipal digital registry. The measure represents a new bureaucratic obstacle for those who seek to generate genuine income without depending on subsidies or inefficient state structures.

Mayor Daniel Passerini is thus deepening a model of control that directly undermines free competition and current technological innovation. By requiring mandatory registrations and complex requirements, the municipality limits the supply of transportation and harms users who choose this system. It is incomprehensible that suffocating regulation is prioritized over the need for work for thousands of citizens of Córdoba in the current context.

To justify this pressure, the authorities claim that only 1,000 people out of a universe of 10,000 workers have started the official registration process. Eduardo Ramírez, Undersecretary of Mobility, stated that "after the approval we have the obligation to control," confirming the persecutory intent toward the workers. The deployment of inspectors on the streets seeks to force formality through fear and economic sanctions instead of encouraging private activity.

La municipalidad emitirá sanciones que oscilan entre los $2.000.000 y los $6.000.000 para los choferes no inscriptos

Confiscatory fines and obstacles to the free market

The system of penalties established by the municipality reaches exorbitant amounts that range between $2,000,000 and $6,000,000 for unregistered drivers. These amounts have a clear revenue-raising purpose and can mean personal bankruptcy for any driver who is simply trying to drive his own vehicle. The tax voracity of Palacio 6 de Julio targets a sector that offers an efficient solution to the historic deficit of local public transportation.

"We understood that this is a reasonable time to begin to control in a reliable and exhaustive way," Ramírez stated when confirming the tightening of the citations. Meanwhile, as the world moves toward the deregulation of collaborative economies, Córdoba is moving backward by imposing laws that protect the privileges of traditional political sectors. It is imperative that the municipal government stop persecuting entrepreneurs who provide a service valued by the majority of consumers in Córdoba.

The current regulations were discussed with the participation of the companies, but they end up becoming a legal trap for the weakest link in the system. Instead of guaranteeing freedom of movement and employment, Mayor Passerini prefers to increase the presence of public agents to monitor private activity. This policy of multimillion-dollar fines only generates social resentment and slows the development of modern solutions that improve mobility throughout the capital.
