Volkswagen is moving forward with a new compact pickup that will mark a turning point in its regional line-up. The model will arrive to replace the Saveiro and compete head-on in a segment that keeps growing in South America.
From Brazil specialized outlets are already anticipating that the German brand has defined the name of the project and that the launchis part of a broader strategy to regain ground.

A name that is beginning to take shape
According to the specialized outlet Mobiauto, Volkswagen's future compact pickup would be called Tukan. The name arises from a series of registrations filed by the automaker with the INPI of Brazil.
The choice is not random. It marks a new stage for Volkswagen within the segment, with a proposal conceived from scratch and not as a simple evolution of the Saveiro.
Regional production and planned launch
According to the Brazilian press, the debut of the Volkswagen Tukan is scheduled for 2027 in the Brazilian market. Later on, the model would also arrive in Argentina.

Production will take place at the São José dos Pinhais plant, where the T-Cross is currently manufactured. Both models will share the MQB platform, as well as various technical components.
What is known about the design and versions
For now, the final design of the Tukan is a mystery. Volkswagen hasn't released official images and the test units that have been seen are circulating with bodies adapted from other models.

Modern mechanics and possible electrification
In the mechanical section, Volkswagen's future pickup could be equipped with the 1.5 TSI Evo engine. This powerplant delivers 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque, figures that are in line with the most modern offerings in the segment.
In addition, there is a possibility of incorporating a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This technology would make it possible to reduce fuel consumption and emissions without sacrificing performance.
