The Argentinian beach handball experienced the most important day in its history this Sunday. In Zagreb, Croatia, the women's team became world champions for the first time by defeating Denmark in a thrilling final, while the men's team completed a historic performance by winning the bronze medal.
The Kamikazes defeated the Danes 2-1 in a shoot-out, after splitting a set each. After dominating the first set, the Argentinians lost the second and had to decide the title through individual shots, where they showed greater composure to secure the victory and unleash the celebrations.
The victory was a revenge for the team led by Leticia Brunati, who had fallen to the same opponent during the group stage, and crowned a tournament in which Argentina progressed from lesser to greater. In the knockout rounds, they eliminated The Netherlands in the quarter-finals and knocked out the reigning European champion, Spain, in a dramatic semi-final that was also decided in shoot-outs.
"The girls showed that they are ready for the big challenges. This title is the result of years of work and sacrifice", highlighted Brunati after a historic achievement that confirms the evolution of a team that had been the world runner-up in 2024 and champion of the World Games in 2025, but still needed to conquer an absolute World Cup.
In addition to the collective first place, the tournament also brought individual recognitions for the Argentinian team: Zoe Turnes was chosen by the International Federation as the best player of the tournament and Alma Jazmín Molina received the award for best defender.
And the Argentinian celebration did not end with the women's victory. In the men's category, the team led by Sebastián Ferraro reached the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time. After narrowly losing to Germany, they reacted in the match for the third place and defeated the host, Croatia, 2-1 to take home the bronze medal.
With the first world title for the Kamikazes and the first medal for the men's team in a World Cup, Argentina concluded its best historical performance in beach handball and reaffirmed its growth among the main powers of the discipline.
