Political repression in Venezuela continues to intensify at an alarming rate under the narco-terrorist regime of Nicolás Maduro, according to a report released by the Human Rights Committee of Vente Venezuela (VV).
During the month of October, at least 54 arbitrary detentions were recorded, including journalists, students, and minors, according to the document. This figure amounts to one detention every 15 hours, an average that reflects the systematic nature of political persecution in the country.
The national human rights coordinator of Vente Venezuela, Orlando Moreno, denounced that the figures demonstrate the systematic nature of repression under Maduro's regime. On his X account, Moreno wrote: "On average, one arbitrary detention occurred every 15 hours, an alarming figure that has left dozens of families physically and emotionally harmed simply for thinking differently."

The data add to the statistics from Foro Penal Venezolano, which as of last Wednesday counted 875 political prisoners in the country, although the number varies constantly due to new detentions and temporary releases. Human rights organizations warn that these practices aim to intimidate dissent and control the political climate amid economic and social deterioration.
Among the most recent cases is that of journalist Joan Camargo, who was missing for five days after being intercepted by men dressed in black as he left his home. He was released without any official explanation, in a pattern that the National Association of Journalists described as part of the growing persecution against the press in the country.

Meanwhile, Rafael Uzcátegui, director of the think tank Laboratorio de Paz, warned that the pace of detentions has accelerated since September, coinciding with the Caribbean operations led by the United States. Before those operations, the average was one detention every 40 hours, whereas now it occurs once every 15.
Uzcátegui also warned about a new repressive trend: the revocation of nationality for dissidents, an unprecedented measure that worsens the situation of those already suffering persecution. He also warned that, even if United States ships withdraw from the region, the repressive pattern of the Venezuelan dictatorship will continue.
