Nintendo confirmed an important change for the highly anticipated live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda. Finally, the film will hit theaters on April 30, 2027, a week earlier than the originally announced date.

The adaptation based on one of the most iconic video game franchises was set to premiere on May 7, 2027, but the company decided to move the release to expedite the project's arrival to fans.

What Nintendo said about the date change

The person responsible for communicating the news was Shigeru Miyamoto, a historic creative figure at Nintendo and one of the central figures behind Zelda.

“With the goal of delivering it to the public even a day earlier, the entire team is united to move forward with production,” Miyamoto expressed on Nintendo's official social media.

The executive did not explain specific reasons behind the calendar shift, although he emphasized that the team is working to complete the film “as soon as possible.”

The Zelda movie enters a strong release competition

Although the release of The Legend of Zelda did not have direct competition as heavy as other major blockbusters, the cinematic calendar for 2027 will be packed with important productions.

Among the films set to arrive close to the release are Sonic the Hedgehog 4, scheduled for March, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and also Star Wars: Starfighter, which will debut at the end of May.

What is known about the live-action of The Legend of Zelda

For now, Nintendo is keeping almost all the details of the movie under wraps. The company has not yet revealed concrete information about the plot, the period of the saga that it will adapt, or which version of Hyrule will appear on screen.

The only officially confirmed detail is that Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link, while Bo Bragason will portray Zelda.

In previous statements, the director assured that he aims to create a “serious,” “realistic,” and “more grounded” version of the The Legend of Zelda universe, moving away from an excessively cartoonish approach.

Many fans hope that Nintendo will take advantage of the 40th anniversary of Zelda, which will be celebrated next year, to showcase the first official trailer and reveal new details about the project.
