With the price increase of the console around the corner, the president of Nintendo assured that they have several new titles in development to boost sales.
With the imminent price increase of the Switch 2 expected in September, this end-of-year period becomes crucial for Nintendo. The higher cost of the console means the company is more dependent than ever on attractive software releases to drive sales, although for now the game lineup for the second half of the year looks limited.
Without giving specific details, President Shuntaro Furukawa made it clear that the company has several titles in preparation for 2026. “We will continue to work on a variety of new games for Nintendo Switch 2,” he noted in the English translation of the latest financial results conference.
The executive emphasized the importance of major releases to sell hardware. The way Pokémon Pokopia boosted console sales reaffirms that appealing software is essential for the transition to the Switch 2, Furukawa explained.
Additionally, he assured that they have many new titles ready and that they will convey the appeal of each one so that users migrate at their own pace. The goal is to grow the installed base of the console in the medium and long term, increase software sales, and the number of active players per year.
Variety Beyond Major Hits
Furukawa also mentioned that they are not limited to just the so-called “major titles.” They are working on a variety of projects for Switch 2, which includes both major productions and more modest ones. For the second half of this year, they are preparing additional news beyond what has already been announced and will provide more details at the appropriate time.
The current release list is not empty. Next week a new Yoshi game arrives, in June a remake of Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders and Rhythm Heaven Megamix in July, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave at some point in 2026. However, there are still missing those powerful titles capable of selling systems on their own, like a new Super Mario, Animal Crossing, or The Legend of Zelda.
While the Switch 2 has performed well with these smaller games so far, major releases will be even more important as the console becomes more expensive. Fans eagerly await future Nintendo Direct presentations that reveal surprises and complete the calendar.
Nintendo's strategy involves balancing the catalog and maintaining player interest. With the clear message from the president, there is anticipation that 2026 will bring important announcements that justify the investment in the new console and continue to solidify its position in the market.
