Production in full swing and confirmation of the 2027 release
The feature film is already being shot on location in New Zealand under the direction of Wes Ball. Although there is no exact date for the end of filming, Nintendo has announced that the movie will arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027.
In an official statement, Miyamoto said: "We've begun large-scale filming in a spectacular natural environment. Filming is progressing smoothly, so we look forward to your support."
Young cast and a bet on new talent
Unlike other productions, Nintendo has chosen a cast without major Hollywood names. Bragason and Ainsworth lead a line-up designed to bring freshness and international projection to the project.

This choice reflects the intention to build a long-term film saga, relying on actors who can grow alongside the Zelda universe.
A huge challenge: bringing Zelda to the big screen
With more than 140 million copies sold, The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's and global gaming's most influential franchises. For this reason, fans are closely following every detail, expecting a result worthy of its history.

Expectations are also shaped by the overwhelming success of "Super Mario Bros.: The Movie", which set the bar very high for adaptations. The studio is aiming to repeat that phenomenon with a film that will captivate both veteran players and new generations.
