The October 12 holiday has been moved and a long weekend has already been confirmed.
The Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity is moved forward and there will be a long three-day weekend
This year, Argentinians will enjoy a long weekend in October. The national government decided to move the October 12 holiday to Friday, October 10, thus creating a three-day break. Resolution 139/2025 was published on Monday, September 1, in the Official Gazette.
Holiday or non-working day: what it means
Friday, October 10, will be a national holiday and not a non-working day. This means that the day off will be mandatory throughout the country. According to the Labor Contract Law, article 181, employees who work on holidays must receive double their usual salary.
Meanwhile, non-working days are optional: the company may require the provision of services, but without additional pay. The difference is that the holiday guarantees double pay, while the non-working day keeps normal compensation.

New criteria for moving holidays
Recently, the government published a decree establishing a new criterion for moving transferable national holidays. Now, holidays that fall on weekends can be moved to the previous Friday or the following Monday.
This measure seeks to address a legal gap in Law 27,399, which regulated holidays but did not specify how to proceed if they coincided with weekends. Non-transferable holidays are not modified and will continue to be celebrated on their original date. The Cabinet Chief's Office has the authority to apply and clarify each transfer, defining when each holiday will be moved.
Holidays remaining in 2025
The official calendar for the coming months includes several extended breaks:
October
- Friday, 10: Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity (transferable)
November
- Friday, 21: non-working bridge day
- Monday, 24: National Sovereignty Day (transferable from Thursday, 20)
December
- Monday, 8: Immaculate Conception of Mary Day (non-transferable)
- Thursday, 25: Christmas (non-transferable)
With these measures, Argentinians will be able to plan getaways and activities during the upcoming long weekends, complying with the current regulations for national holidays.
