The opposition spread false information about university transparency

Alejandro Álvarez replied with precision and made clear the bad faith of the attack on the transparency of the Executive

In a new chapter of the narrative war, an account of opposition militancy,  with an anti-Milei bias, "Arrepentidos de Milei", attempted  to discredit the Government by spreading erroneous data about the level of transparency in national universities. Through a post on the social network X  (formerly Twitter), they claimed that the audited educational institutions had far surpassed various ministries in transparency.

The post, which was quickly replicated by other users of the same ideological line, stated that "the audited National Universities showed a transparency index in the 4th quarter of 2024 between 90% and 100%, more than the Ministry of Caputo and Bullrich's." What they didn't say—or worse yet, didn't understand—was that they were confusing  two completely different tools.

The forceful response came from Alejandro Álvarez, Undersecretary of National University Policies, who clarified on his social networks: "They confuse the SIGEN audit with the active transparency of the Public Information Agency, they don't even read what they publish, it says right there that they review websites according to the RIGHT OF ACCESS TO PUBLIC INFORMATION LAW 27.275, it has nothing to do with the audit."

The opposition misinformation was based on a report released by the  Public Information Access Agency  (AAIP), which presented the results of the  Transparency Index  (IT) for the 4th quarter of 2024, a monitoring that evaluates the publication of information on the websites of 209 national public sector agencies, in accordance with Law 27.275. In other words, it is not about accounting or administrative audits, like those conducted by the SIGEN  (General Audit Office of the Nation), but an index  that measures compliance with active and proactive transparency standards.

Results of the Transparency Index by obligated subject, updated to the 4th quarter of 2024, showing a pie chart with 90% Active Transparency and 10% Proactive Transparency, monitored by the Public Information Access Agency of Argentina.

According to the report, agencies such as the National University of Lanús (96.5%), the National University of Cuyo  (95.8%), and the  National University of Mar del Plata (94.9%), among others, indeed showed high levels of transparency in this new attempt at media manipulation. However, key ministries like Health (96.5%), the Superintendency of Health Services (97.5%), and the Public Information Access Agency itself (97.5%) also did. Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Office achieved a perfect score: 100%.
