The Premier League will use the semi-automatic offside seen in the World Cup and other tournaments.
England's first division will start using this technology from matchday 32, which begins on April 12
The Premier League announced that starting from matchday 32, which begins on Saturday, April 12, it will start using the semi-automated offside technology previously seen in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in recent editions of the Champions League and Europa League, and in La Liga (Spain).
Initially, the implementation was scheduled between October and November 2023, but it was delayed to conduct more tests both in the Premier League and the FA Cup. This system, already used in UEFA tournaments, allows for more precise offside detection thanks to advanced optical tracking and the generation of virtual graphics that enhance the experience both in the stadium and on television broadcasts.

"The technology maintains the integrity of the process while improving the speed, efficiency, and consistency of offside decision-making," explained the Premier League in a statement.
Functioning
The system is based on 30 strategically located cameras in the stadiums, some of which capture images at 100 frames per second, double the usual speed of broadcast cameras.
This system will precisely track both the movement of the ball and the exact position of the players, allowing for quicker determination of whether an striker was in an offside position in the play that led to a goal or a key action.
