The uncertainty about the next opponent of Racing in the quarter-finals of the Argentine Cup will extend for a few more days. When it seemed that Boca and Vélez would know the resolution of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) this Thursday, the body decided to postpone its pronouncement for a week and wait for Boca's response to the complaint filed.

The conflict originated on September 2, when Boca included six foreign players in the match sheet against Fortín, one more than allowed by the regulations of the tournaments organized by the AFA. For this reason, the Liniers team made a formal presentation and requested that the match be awarded to them, which would allow them to advance to the quarter-finals.

According to the official match sheet from the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium, the six players listed were Álvaro Montero (Colombia), Leandro Lozano (Uruguay), Carlos Palacios (Chile), Sebastián Villa (Colombia), Enner Valencia (Ecuador) and Ángel Romero (Paraguay). The latter was the only one who did not play during the 90 minutes.

Precisely, that point is part of the argument with which Boca is preparing its defense. From the club in La Ribera, they maintain that the presence of six foreigners on the sheet was an administrative error and believe that, since it is a violation of that type, economic sanctions or warnings would be appropriate, but not a modification of the result.

In addition, Boca argues that Romero did not participate in the match and that, therefore, there was no sporting advantage derived from the regulatory breach. The club's position is that this aspect must be taken into account when determining the scope of the sanction.

Vélez, on the other hand, maintains its position and understands that Boca committed an improper alignment by exceeding the allowed limit of foreigners. Therefore, the Liniers club wants the Tribunal to impose a sporting sanction that modifies the outcome of the match and grants them qualification.

While both institutions await the resolution, Racing already has its quarter-final match scheduled for Sunday, September 27 at the Gigante de Arroyito. What they still do not know is who will be facing them. If the Disciplinary Tribunal accepts Fortín's complaint, this will be the opponent of the Academy, while if the presentation is dismissed, it will be the Xeneize who won the round of 16 clash in the penalty shootout after the 0-0 during the 90 minutes.
