Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to expand the reach of its most valued properties and is now doing so with one of its most beloved sagas. Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble will be a free-to-play multiplayer arena shooter, designed to attract both casual players and franchise fans seeking a faster, more accessible experience.
The title will arrive on iOS and Android, developed by Oh BiBi in collaboration with Insomniac, the studio that created the original saga. The proposal keeps the humorous tone and distinctive visual identity of the franchise, including the presence of the always eccentric Captain Qwark, who will play a leading role in the story and the game's tutorial.
According to initial details, Ranger Rumble will offer character customization, unique abilities, and classic combat tools from the Ratchet & Clank universe. Players will be able to jump, slide, collect items, and face off in real time, both in cooperative and competitive modes.
Sony has already enabled the pre-registration campaign, allowing users to secure early access before the final release date.

A strategic move in the mobile gaming business
With this move, Sony is advancing into one of the fastest-growing global segments: video games for mobile devices. The company has already made it clear that its roadmap aims to expand franchises beyond the traditional console ecosystem, especially through the free-to-play model and games as a service.
This approach is reinforced by recent results. According to financial reports, more than 40% of PlayStation's first-party software revenue comes from live services, a phenomenon that gained momentum with cases such as Helldivers 2, whose performance remained strong even after its arrival on Xbox.
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble aims to replicate that model in the mobile arena, leveraging the massive smartphone audience, where competition for time and attention is enormous but so is the growth potential.

The strategy also shows Sony's interest in diversifying risk: while Helldivers 2 became established, other ventures such as Destiny 2 did not generate the expected impact in the latest stage. In this context, bringing Ratchet & Clank to the free-to-play model serves as a move to explore new horizons and audiences.
What players can expect: fast-paced battles, humor, and a variety of heroes
Sony assures that Ranger Rumble will preserve the essence of the original franchise through extravagant weapons, exaggerated physics, frenetic battles, and humorous situations. Players will be able to choose from iconic heroes from different installments, unlock advanced abilities, and compete in dynamic scenarios that incorporate platforms and traps.
Although the game will be free-to-play, it has not yet been confirmed how the internal economy will work or what type of in-app purchases will be offered, although it is expected that standard practices of the mobile market will be followed.
