Resident Evil Requiem will take place 30 years after the disaster in Raccoon City.

The name reflects a symbolic and emotional farewell from both the characters and Raccoon City itself

Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil Requiem, the next installment in its iconic franchise of survival horror. The title  will be set three decades after the nuclear disaster in Raccoon City, returning to the origins of terror in a story that blends family legacy,  emotional trauma, and extreme survival.

The protagonist of this installment will be Grace Ashcroft, a young woman marked by the past: her mother disappeared during the original viral outbreak. This personal connection to the tragedy offers a new narrative approach that delves into the themes of loss, grief, and resilience.

What "Requiem" means for the Resident Evil saga

According to Capcom, the name Requiem reflects a symbolic and emotional farewell for both the characters and Raccoon City itself. But it also represents Grace's introspective journey, as she will go from being a victim paralyzed by fear to a figure capable of facing her worst nightmares.

Masato Kumazawa, the game's producer, explained that one of the main objectives is "to reconnect with classic horror" through a protagonist with intense emotional development. Fear is no longer just an obstacle, but a sensory experience that drives the player to move forward.

The return to Raccoon City: roots of biological horror

After the rural settings of Resident Evil 7 and Village, the franchise returns to its most iconic setting: the ruins of Raccoon City. This return marks a revaluation of the original narrative, where the biological threat of the Umbrella Corporation still casts its shadow, even 30 years later.

The renewed approach will allow this iconic city to be explored from a new post-apocalyptic perspective, ideal for both veteran players and those new to the saga.

"Addictive fear": the new key mechanic

One of the pillars of Resident Evil Requiem will be its "addictive fear" system, which encourages the player to keep facing terrifying situations out of the desire to discover more. According to Koshi Nakanishi, the game's director, this mechanic seeks to return to "pure horror," moving away from the intense action of installments like Resident Evil 4 Remake.

The feeling of emotional and physical vulnerability will be key, as well as the character's progressive adaptation to constant terror. Capcom aims for this dynamic to generate an immersive and memorable experience, true to the DNA of survival horror.
