The Peronist governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, requested the resignation of all members of the provincial cabinet following a much closer-than-expected electoral result in the legislative elections held on October 26, which caused more concern than celebration.
The announcement was made by the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Luna Corzo, through his X account. "This Thursday, the resignations of all ministers, secretaries, and undersecretaries of the Executive Branch were requested, as well as those responsible for decentralized agencies and members of the administrative bodies of companies and enterprises in which the provincial government holds a stake," the official stated.
Luna Corzo explained that the measure aims to provide the governor with "the necessary flexibility to reshape the composition of the provincial cabinet for the next stage of his administration."

The political context of the decision is marked by the outcome of the legislative elections, where the list "Federales Defendamos La Rioja," which answers to Quintela, achieved a very narrow victory over La Libertad Avanza (LLA), the party of President Javier Milei. According to the final count, the ruling party obtained 89,789 votes (43.57%), while LLA secured 89,168 votes (43.27%), a difference of just 621 ballots.
With this result, the group led by Quintela retained only one of the two seats at stake for the National Chamber of Deputies, which will be held by Gabriela Pedrali, while LLA obtained the other, for Gino Visconti.

Since his reelection in 2023, Ricardo Quintela has been serving his second term as head of the Riojan Executive. Since Milei's inauguration, the governor has positioned himself as one of the most confrontational provincial leaders with the national government.
After the Buenos Aires elections on September 7, the Peronist governor threatened the libertarian administration. "Personally, I believe the government is finished," he declared, and then doubled down by stating: "I'm not a coup plotter by any means, but it's in its final stage."
