Río Tercero in shock over the death of Petroquímica's Human Resources Chief
Elías Casu's body was found in his home, and the Justice Department is investigating the case under a gag order
The city of Río Tercero was left in shock after the death of Elías Casu, head of Human Resources at Petroquímica Río Tercero SA, became known. His body was found in his home located at the intersection of San Martín and 25 de Mayo this Tuesday afternoon. The news caused a stir due to the role he held amid a labor crisis affecting the company.
The case is being investigated by the provincial Justice, which has ordered a gag order to protect the details of the ongoing case. So far, the judicial file is classified as a death of undetermined cause, pending expert reports. Official information about the circumstances of the death has not yet been released.
Local media reported that Casu may have taken his own life, although this version has not been confirmed by the authorities. Diario Río Tercero indicated that sources close to the case circulated this hypothesis in a preliminary manner. The investigation is ongoing, and for now, the results of the official forensic examinations are awaited.

Labor crisis at Petroquímica
The death occurs in parallel with a complex situation affecting the plant of the national group Piero in Río Tercero. In recent weeks, the company announced 124 layoffs, which were added to 120 dismissals carried out in October 2023. This scenario placed the company at the center of a high-impact labor dispute.
The Córdoba Labor Secretariat issued a mandatory conciliation in order to open a dialogue table between the company and the union. The objective was to stop the escalation of the conflict and channel the discussion of the dismissals within an institutional framework. The measure sought to prevent further tensions in the region's chemical hub.
Casu's death had an impact among workers and union leaders due to his role in negotiations with the union. His position made him a direct interlocutor at the bargaining table regarding the dismissals. The news was also confirmed by union representatives, who stated that they received it from the company.
