
Asunción 2025 Junior Pan American Games: Córdoba won 16 medals in 10 sports
Thirty athletes from Córdoba represented the country at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games and won 16 medals in various disciplines
The second edition of the Junior Pan American Games concluded in Asunción with a positive outcome for Argentina. The national delegation finished in fifth place with 95 medals. Córdoba contributed 30 athletes and achieved 16 medals in ten sports, reflecting effort and discipline.
Argentina's performance surpassed the numbers from Cali 2021, where a total of 73 medals had been won. In Paraguay, 27 gold, 38 silver, and 30 bronze medals were achieved. This growth reaffirms the projection of young athletes looking ahead to future international commitments.
Among the standout names is Malena Santillán, who excelled in swimming with a gold in the 200-meter backstroke (656 feet) and a South American youth record. Dante Nicola Rho also triumphed in the men's 4x100m medley relay. In cycling, the athlete from Río Cuarto, Federico Capello, won the BMX Racing final.

Córdoba's golds: merit and youthful talent
The team sports also brought joy to Córdoba in Asunción.Men's hockey and rugby 7s were crowned Pan American champions.Córdoba natives Nicolás Rodríguez, Joaquín Costa, and Valentín Maldonado were part of the winning squads.
The men's 3x3 basketball team, with Juan Cruz Frontera as captain, added another gold to the province's tally. These achievements reflect not only talent but also demanding preparation. The disciplined training of Córdoba's athletes once again makes a difference in international competitions.
The accumulation of gold medals, along with performances in different disciplines, consolidates Córdoba as a cradle of outstanding athletes. Silver and bronze: effort rewarded
Córdoba also contributed silver medals in various disciplines, with Santillán once again standing out in swimming relays. Bautista Ahumada Cirrincione was runner-up in water ski slalom, while Chiara Ferretti excelled in IQ Foil sailing.
In squash, Francisco Alfonso won silver in doubles and teams. The men's volleyball and women's handball teams, with Córdoba representation, also reached second place. These achievements consolidate the province's competitiveness in high-level disciplines.
Bronze came with Santillán's 4x100 medley relay, adding international experience and confirming her status as a promising athlete. Although some athletes from Córdoba narrowly missed the podium, their participation confirms the province's potential for athlete development. The path of merit is already set.

The president of the COA, Mario Moccia, highlighted the importance of this generation for the Lima 2027 Games and Los Angeles 2028.
