Riquelme dissolved the Football Council and is looking for a new manager for Boca
The president made the decision after the club's worst winless streak in its history and plans to rebuild the professional soccer structure
Bocais experiencing an unprecedented football crisis, with the worst winless streak in its history, and the only chance to qualify for the next Copa Libertadores is through the Torneo Clausura. In this context, Juan Román Riquelme made a decisive decision: to dissolve the Football Council.
The organization, responsible for managing professional and amateur football, will cease to exist as it was known. This means the departure of Raúl Cascini and Mauricio Serna from their positions, while Marcelo Delgado will remain at the club but in a different role. The aim of this measure is not only sporting, since it also seeks to ease the pressure from fans, who targeted the Council after every resounding defeat.

Since Riquelme took office as president in mid-2023, the Football Council has experienced several episodes that strained its relationship with the fans. One of the most memorable was the late registration of reinforcements for the series against Independiente del Valle in the Copa Sudamericana.
There were also controversial statements, such as those by Serna, who claimed they had "spoiled the fans by winning", and the lack of self-criticism during tough eliminations. These factors, along with poor results, led to the dissolution.
What's next for Boca
With the Council already out of the picture, Riquelme and Delgado will begin the search for a manager to act as an intermediary between the board and the squad led by Miguel Ángel Russo. The idea is to rebuild the working structure with a view to the second half of the year and the two years remaining in Riquelme's term, until the elections scheduled for the end of 2027.

Although no name has been confirmed yet, the list of candidates includes Carlos Fernando Navarro Montoya, a former Xeneize goalkeeper who has expressed his desire to return to the club. The board is analyzing different profiles with the aim of developing a long-term project that will restore the team's competitiveness.
