River sounded out Enzo Barrenechea, although his response is not very encouraging.
The midfielder is coming off a great season during his loan at Valencia and will have to return to Aston Villa to determine his future
After their participation in the Club World Cup, River's squad has a short break until this Wednesday, but Marcelo Gallardo, his coaching staff, and the management are still working to strengthen the team in this transfer window. In this context, in recent hours, the Millonario made an inquiry about Enzo Barrenechea.
The 24-year-old midfielder had an outstanding season at Valencia and is one of the names that Muñeco considers key to strengthening the midfield. With both present and future potential, Barrenechea has established himself in Europe and, moreover, was drafted by Lionel Scaloni for the Argentina National Team.

Nevertheless, the first response River received was not entirely positive: the entourage of the player born in Villa María wants him to continue in European football. After a one-year loan in Spain, where he played 33 matches, Barrenechea must return to Aston Villa in the Premier League, a club that has not yet decided whether to keep him or loan him out again.
Enzo Barrenechea's career
Although he is little known in Argentine football, Barrenechea came up through the youth ranks at Newell’s, but left for Europe without making his first-team debut. He was acquired by Sion of Switzerland in 2019, and six months later, Juventus brought him in for their reserve team.
After two seasons, he had some appearances with the first team before being loaned to Frosinone, where he gained experience and stood out. Due to that performance, in July 2024 Aston Villa bought him for 8 million euros and loaned him to Valencia, where he gained experience in the last season.

In terms of numbers, the midfielder played 153 matches in all competitions, in which he scored 13 goals and provided 6 assists.
