The Governmentannounced that the National Single Registry of Motor Vehicles (RUNA) now allows brand new vehicles to be registered 100% online. The process costs 20% less than the traditional process. The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Justice, Sebastián Amerio.
Until now, the systemwas only available for motorcycles, but starting this month it also applies to automobiles. The measure aims to streamline registration, eliminate bureaucracy, and continue the digitization of motor vehicle procedures promoted by the National Government.

How the RUNA system works
According to Amerio, RUNA allows the entire process to be completed without going to the Motor Vehicle Registry. Each dealership can enter the buyer's and vehicle's information, while the owner validates their identity and signs electronically.
The system also makes it possible to pay the fee online, receive the vehicle title by email, and access the green card in the Mi Argentina app. After that, the only step left is to pick up the car at the dealership, already ready to drive with the license plates installed.
Discount and fee reduction
Amerio emphasized that "when this Government took office, the registration cost dropped from 2% to 1%. Now it goes from 1% to 0.8% for those who register their vehicle digitally, which represents an additional 20% discount".
The measure is part of the modernization and deregulation process of the State. "In the future, RUNA will centralize all motor vehicle procedures," the official stated.
What has changed since its implementation for motorcycles
RUNA began operating on February 19 for motorcycles. In its first months, it had limitations, such as the inability to register transactions with collateral or leasing and amounts that exceeded the limits established by the Financial Information Unit (UIF).

At that time, the system also had cost differences. For example, for motorcycles costing less than $3,700,000, the digital process was more expensive than doing it at a traditional registry. This was because RUNA had a minimum amount of $30,000 for motorcycles and $180,000 for cars, while traditional registries charged lower amounts.
Market impact and expectations
With the extension of RUNA to cars, the Government aims to make registration simpler, faster, and more affordable. In addition, this digitization is expected to reduce administrative costs and eliminate intermediaries, making it easier to purchase new vehicles.
Amerio concluded that the initiative adds to the digitization of the green card and the elimination of the former blue card. "Today, authorizing a third party to drive your vehicle is done from your cell phone in seconds and at no cost", he stated.
