The national government has formalized the renewal of the quota for importing electric and hybrid cars with tariff benefits. The measure, published in the Official Gazette, aims to promote the growth of the automotive fleet in the country.
The plan will be in effect during 2026 and will allow the entry of up to 50,000 units per year without paying the Extraterritorial Import Duty (D.I.E.). Normally, it imposes a 35% tariff on vehicles coming from countries without trade agreements with Argentina.

Who can access the benefit
The decree clarifies that not all models will be able to enter with this benefit. It will only apply to vehicles whose FOB value doesn't exceed 16,000 dollars and that weigh more than 400 kilograms (882 pounds) without battery. This excludes ultralight models such as the Coradir Tito, the Citroën Ami, or the Mobilize Duo.
Among the cars that could enter under this regime are the Renault Kwid E-Tech and the Baic EU5, among others. Both automakers and individuals will be able to access the benefit as long as they meet the established technical and administrative requirements.
How the 50,000 quotas will be distributed
The total number of authorized vehicles will be divided into two main groups:
25,000 units for terminal companies established with production in Argentina.
25,000 units for individuals or legal entities without local plants.

Mandatory documentation
For companies, it will be necessary to attach:
The company's current bylaws.
The minutes of appointment of authorities or power of attorney accrediting legal representation.
A sworn statement confirming that the vehicle will comply with the safety and emissions standards established by Law 24.449.
Companies that have already submitted this documentation previously may replace it with a sworn statement if the information remains current.
