Thanks to the economic recovery achieved by the Government of Javier Milei, the wage index prepared by INDEC indicated a 2.9% increase in the average wages of formal and informal workers during the first month of the year.

Additionally, as has been the case since 2024, this increase exceeded the inflation level recorded in the same month, which was 2.2%, so wages increased in real terms.

This wage increase in January was broken down into a 2.3% in the registered private sector, a 0.9% in the public sector, and an impressive 8.6% in the unregistered private sector.

In year-over-year terms, the wage index experienced a 117% increase, above inflation. This breaks down into a 111% increase in the registered private sector, a 97.5% in the public sector, and a 189.6% in the unregistered private sector.

INDEC data

In January 2025, two of the wage sectors surveyed by INDEC recorded increases above inflation, which was 2.2%:

  • Registered private sector: wages increased by 2.9%.
  • Unregistered private sector: wages rose by 8.6%.

In contrast, the public sector had an increase of only 0.9%, resulting in an increase below the monthly inflation.

Additionally, since January 1, 2025, the monthly minimum wage was set at $286,711 for monthly workers with a full workday, as stipulated in the Employment Contract Regime (Law No. 20,744). For hourly workers, the wage was set at $1,434 per hour.

These values show a slight increase compared to December 2024, when the monthly minimum wage was $279,718, and the hourly wage was $1,399.
