Crisis at San Lorenzo: Martín Signa and Uriel Barros have resigned from the General Secretariat

The resignations of the secretary and deputy secretary of Ciclón add to a series of departures that deepen the institutional uncertainty within the club

San Lorenzo's political crisis shows no signs of stopping, and this Tuesday added a new chapter with the resignations of Martín Cigna from the position of General Secretary and Uriel Barros from that of Deputy Secretary, as well as their respective positions as board members. Their decisions come amid a tense atmosphere  following Marcelo Moretti's return to the club presidency.

Cigna explained, in a letter addressed to Julio Lopardo, vice president in charge of management, that his departure is due to "his strongest convictions" and the need to prioritize "responsibility and institutional well-being", as well as to fulfill the promise releasedly to the members.  The resignation will take effect once it is addressed at the next Board of Directors meeting, in order not to hinder the club's daily operations.

Meanwhile, Barros had already signed the resignation "a couple of weeks ago", but due to "different issues related to the disciplines" under his purview it had not been released. "I also prioritized CASLA basketball over my own interests, exposing myself to criticism for not making it public. I hope this step brings the peace and order we need", he added.

These departures add to last week's resignations of Marcelo Culotta and Agustina Nordestrom, opposition leaders from the Orden y Progreso Sanlorencista and Volver a San Lorenzo groups, who had called on other leaders to follow their decision to force a power vacuum and thus pave the way for a change in leadership.

Is a power vacuum approaching?

The current outlook shows a complex scenario: Julio Lopardo left the vice presidency but remains as a board member, while Javier Allievi submitted a conditional resignation to take effect if it is necessary to reach a power vacuum. In addition to the already confirmed departures of Culotta and Nordestrom (opposition), there are also those of Daniela Méndez Righi and Pablo Levalle (official party).

Today, San Lorenzo has 15 active members on the Board of Directors: Marcelo Moretti, Lopardo, Andrés Terzano, Leandro Goroyesky, Carina Farías, Alejandro Tamer, Mateo Sagardoy, Soledad Boufflet, Leonardo Virardi, Belén Lugones, Allievi, Pablo García Lago, Néstor Ortigoza, Christian Evangelista, and Sergio Costantino.

In addition, Alan Navarro (Néstor's son) and Emiliano Rodríguez are waiting to take office, while Mariano Marino has already resigned from the possibility of joining as an alternate board member.

If the entry of the two waiting directors is confirmed,  the Board would reach 17 members. If they do not, there will be 15 and five more resignations would still be needed to reach the power vacuum that would require calling early elections.
