San Lorenzo experienced a day of extreme tension this Tuesday that marked a new breaking point in its political life. After a Board of Directors meeting that lasted throughout the day and was marked by judicial summons, the majority of the directors submitted their resignations, leaving the club once again headless.
The conclave began before 11 in the morning, but it quickly moved to an intermediate recess so that nine members of the leadership could appear to testify at the prosecutor's office, at the request of the justice system. Only after 5 p.m. the meeting resumed, with more than five hours of intense negotiations that resulted in the mass resignation of a large part of the board.
However, five directors chose to not sign their resignation: Christian Evangelista, Sergio Costantino, Alejandro Tamer, Néstor Ortigoza, and president Marcelo Moretti. According to reports, the decision was based on the rejection of a possible headless situation and on the intention to maintain an active role in the transition process that will open at the club.
In this scenario, institutional leadership will now pass to the members' assembly, which will have Daniel Matos and Ulises Morales as its main leaders. Within an estimated period of fifteen days, the assembly members must appoint a temporary board of directors that will assume the governance of the club and evaluate the possibility of calling early elections, a demand that the fans have been expressing strongly and that was once again heard in the vicinity of the club's headquarters.
Moretti will try to challenge the record that declares the headless situation
With the headless situation already confirmed and with the quorum of several of the blaugrana directors, Moretti himself refused to place his signature on the record in which the resignations were submitted. In addition, the president confirmed that he will go to the justice system to challenge the meeting of the Board of Directors and thus remain in power.
