While San Martín de San Juan is going through a decisive stage of the season, a situation has begun to generate concern within the institution. According to the local media Tiempo de San Juan, around ten players are reportedly under scrutiny due to an internal investigation related to alleged sports betting that has been going on for approximately two years and even extends to the period when the Verdinegro was competing in the top category of Argentine football.

The first observations reportedly arose from some Reserve matches whose results were considered "doubtful". As the investigation progressed, attention has also shifted to members of the professional squad, although so far the names of the involved players have not been publicly disclosed nor is there a known official complaint.

These events have already reportedly caused movements within the club. According to the San Juan portal, some of the accused players have been sidelined and others have ended up terminating their contracts. Meanwhile, some continue to work with the professional squad due to, among other reasons, regulatory limitations and the inability to freely modify the good faith list at this stage of the competition.

The episode generates discomfort among the club's leaders and staff due to the potential impact it could have on the club's image. A source consulted by Tiempo de San Juan was emphatic when referring to the individuals under suspicion: "They are doing a lot of damage to the club,” they expressed.

The club's stance

For now, the management of San Martín has chosen to handle the matter with caution and absolute secrecy: there has been no statement, press conference, or official announcement confirming the investigation publicly. The intention of the management, according to the information released, would be to gather evidence before defining any potential measures and to prevent the case from disrupting sporting operations.

The context also explains part of the concern. The Concepción team is going through a decisive moment in the Primera Nacional and is fighting for a spot in the Reducido (currently in 7th place [8 teams qualify] with 41 points with 7 matches remaining), aiming to return to the top category after the relegation suffered in 2025. In that scenario, premature exposure could open an additional conflict within a squad that needs to maintain focus.
