The Scott Pilgrim universe will expand again on March 3, 2026, with the digital release of Scott Pilgrim EX, the new installment developed by Tribute Games. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC, aiming for an action and exploration experience with retro aesthetics and updated mechanics.
The proposal is presented as a brand-new adventure, written by Bryan Lee O’Malley, that doesn't require prior knowledge of the saga, although it includes multiple nods designed for the franchise’s longtime followers.
New playable characters and combat styles
One of the main new features of Scott Pilgrim EX is the addition of Matthew Patel and Robot-01 as playable characters. Both significantly expand the combat possibilities and provide distinct styles within the action system.

Matthew Patel, one of the saga’s most memorable antagonists, specializes in mystical attacks powered by fire and in summoning his demon hipsters, which allows him to control the battlefield with wide-range combos. Robot-01, a creation of the Katayanagi Twins, introduces a technological approach, with aerial attacks, transformations during combat, and the combined use of short- and long-range weapons.
These additions bring the total roster to seven selectable characters, each with its own abilities and mechanics.
Combat, exploration, and dynamic co-op
Scott Pilgrim EX's gameplay system focuses on creating advanced combos, the strategic use of items, and coordination between players. The title will feature a co-op mode for up to four people, both locally and online, with the possibility of entering or leaving the match without interrupting the action.
The story takes place in a futuristic version of Toronto set in the year 20XX, where three factions—vegans, robots, and demons—vie for control of the city. After the kidnapping of Sex Bob-omb's members, Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers and their allies must travel through different connected levels, complete side missions, and face new challenges.

The game also incorporates a badge system, which allows players to improve stats and customize the characters, adding a layer of progression that was not present in the original title.
Music, references, and a bet on the current audience
Bryan Lee O’Malley clarified that Scott Pilgrim EX is not a direct sequel, although fans will find narrative and aesthetic references that enrich the experience. The return of Anamanaguchi to compose the soundtrack reinforces the nostalgic component, while the gameplay improvements seek to attract a new generation of players.
Tribute Games aims to maintain the classic identity of the beat ’em up while adapting it to current digital market standards, with a focus on replayability, co-op, and a variety of combat styles.
With its release confirmed for March, Scott Pilgrim EX is emerging as one of the standout titles of the genre on the 2026 calendar.
