After the release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, Sega will stop selling Yakuza 3 Remastered as an independent digital product
Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced that Yakuza 3 Remastered will be withdrawn from individual digital sale after the release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, scheduled for February 12. From that date on, the title will only be available in digital format as part of the Yakuza Complete Series bundle.
Until now, the remaster of the PlayStation 3 classic was available independently on platforms such as PlayStation Store, Steam, GOG, and Xbox. With this decision, Sega is significantly changing access to one of the key chapters of the saga.
The release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 as a key factor
The withdrawal of Yakuza 3 Remastered is directly linked to the arrival of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, the full remake of the third game in the series. This new version will include technical improvements and additional content, among them the Dark Ties expansion, focused on Yoshitaka Mine, one of the most memorable antagonists in the franchise.

With this move, Sega appears to be seeking to make the remake the definitive experience of the third chapter, relegating the remastered version to a secondary role within a larger bundle.
What the Yakuza Complete Series bundle includes
Starting February 12, the only digital way to access Yakuza 3 Remastered will be by purchasing Yakuza Complete Series, which brings together all the main installments of the saga in remastered or definitive versions:
Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza 3 Remastered
Yakuza 4 Remastered
Yakuza 5 Remastered
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
The bundle represents a complete collection, but it also represents a considerable financial outlay, especially for those who are only looking for a specific title.
Impact on new players and Steam users
Players who have already purchased Yakuza 3 Remastered will not lose access to the game and will be able to continue downloading it from their digital libraries. However, the situation is different for new buyers.
In particular, Steam presents the most unfavorable scenario, since Yakuza Complete Series is sold as a closed bundle. This means that, even if the user already owns several included titles, the price doesn't go down, unlike flexible bundles that discount already purchased games.

This policy raises the cost of access to Yakuza 3 Remastered and has caused criticism within the PC gaming community.
Options available after the digital withdrawal
After the removal of the individual digital version, the alternatives to obtain Yakuza 3 Remastered will be limited. On PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, it will still be possible to look for physical copies of Yakuza Remastered Collection, although their availability will depend on store stock.
Meanwhile, Sega confirmed that players will be able to try a demo of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties before its release, which will make it possible to evaluate the remake as a direct replacement for the remastered version.
Criticism and doubts about the future of the saga
The decision to withdraw individual games and concentrate their sale in complete bundles has reignited the debate about the accessibility of the digital catalog. Part of the community fears that this criterion will extend to other remastered installments and will result in hidden price increases for those who wish to enter the saga gradually.
For now, Sega has not announced additional changes, but the move sets a precedent that could redefine the commercial strategy of the Yakuza franchise in the digital environment.
