Motorsport once again experienced a moment of maximum tension at the Suzuka circuit, Japan. British driver Luke Browning, former teammate of Franco Colapinto in the Williams academy, was involved in a violent crash during practice for the Japanese Super Formula, although he fortunately emerged uninjured after a spectacular rollover under heavy rain conditions.
The incident occurred after one hour and twenty minutes of practice, when the Kondo Racing driver lost control of his Dallara-Toyota at the 130R corner, one of the fastest and most challenging sections of the Japanese track. The single-seater skidded, hit the safety barriers rear-first, and ended up rolling over the top of the protections until it came to rest upside down on the grass.
The scene caused immediate concern. Browning needed assistance from the marshals to stabilize the car before he exited the cockpit under his own power. Once he was out of the vehicle, he reassured everyone: ""It was a slightly unfortunate accident. I simply suffered aquaplaning and then I became a mere passenger".
The 24-year-old Briton, a member of the Williams academy and current test driver for the team in Formula 1, highlighted the performance of the safety systems. ""I am very well, I do not have any pain. Fortunately I landed in the hay and I did not hit the barriers, so everything is fine. The HANS device is fantastic, I think it saved my neck"", he stated.
Browning salió ileso
Despite the violence of the impact, the first inspections indicated that the chassis did not suffer irreparable damage, so Kondo Racing will evaluate his return to the track once the integrity of the single-seater is confirmed. Beyond the scare, Browning preferred to focus on the learning: ""These are lessons that one learns; here everything is about learning, and today I learned a lesson that will help me in my career".
