La Plata liberated zone: a worker died after being brutally assaulted and beaten
Fredy Soria was attacked while he was on his way to work in Los Hornos and died 48 hours later. The justice system is analyzing the case
Insecurity has once again taken center stage in La Plata (capital of the Province of Buenos Aires), following the death of a man who had been attacked by criminals in a public area.
The case occurred after Fredy Emanuel Soria, 37 years old, was brutally beaten by two motorcycle thieves last Saturday, while he was on his way to work at Unidad de Pronta Atención (UPA) 6 in Los Hornos, where he worked as a cleaning employee.
Despite having received initial medical attention and being discharged from a private clinic, his condition worsened and he died two days later.

The attack took place around 6:30 in the morning, at the intersection of 66th Avenue and 145th Street. Two armed criminals intercepted Soria while he was riding his bicycle. According to judicial sources, the assault was violent: "What the victim said while he was alive is that they pulled the trigger on him twice and punched and kicked him in the kidney area." As a result of the assault, he suffered rib fractures and multiple internal injuries.
After the incident, he received care at UPA 6, where he worked, and was later transferred to Sanatorio Argentinothrough ART coverage. However, there he was discharged, being prescribed only diclofenac to relieve the pain.
He returned home, but two days later, on Monday, he collapsed in downtown La Plata while carrying out a banking procedure to manage the cards that had been stolen from him during the attack. Witnesses indicated that he showed signs of hypotension and respiratory difficulty.
Soria was rushed to Hospital Sudamericano, where doctors managed to resuscitate him, although he ultimately died at 3:30 p.m. The medical report confirmed as cause of death an "acute hemorrhagic abdomen", a diagnosis that could be directly linked to the blows received during the robbery. The autopsy, scheduled for this Wednesday, will be key to establishing the definitive link between the assault and the death.

The judiciary opened two parallel cases. On one hand, UFI No. 8, led by prosecutor Martín Almirón, is investigating a homicide during a robbery. Meanwhile, UFI No. 10, headed by Carlos Vercellone, is analyzing the possible commission of involuntary manslaughter due to medical negligence, given the decision to discharge the patient from the clinic without recognizing the severity of the injuries.
Regarding responsibility for the incident, there is already a detainee identified as González, one of the two criminals who participated in the attack. He was linked to the case after selling the cell phone stolen from the victim.
The device was tracked through geolocation and recovered, which allowed the investigation to move forward. It has not yet been determined whether González was the one who beat Soria or if he was the accomplice who tried to shoot him, since both had their faces covered and there are no security camera images from the scene.
Fredy Soria's death once again exposes the problem of urban crime in the region, the lack of police presence identified as a "Zona Liberada" modus operandi, carried out by Mayor Julio Alak and Governor Axel Kicillof, and the impact caused by motorcycle thieves, a criminal method that is repeated in various parts of the metropolitan area and the provincial capital. Progress in the case will help clarify not only the criminal responsibility of the strikers, but also any possible shortcomings in medical care that may have influenced the outcome.
