Silvia Lospennato made the decision not to take her seat in the Buenos Aires City Legislature

Lospennato communicated her decision during a meeting of PRO's inner circle on May 26

National deputy and failed PRO candidate, Silvia Lospennato, decided not to take her seat in the Buenos Aires City Legislature for which she was elected on May 18, and confirmed that she will continue in her position as deputy for Buenos Aires Province until the end of her term in 2027.

This decision reshapes the internal landscape of PRO and opens a new chapter in the power struggle among the different factions of the party founded by Mauricio Macri.

Lospennato communicated her decision during the PRO inner circle meeting on May 26, just one week after the electoral defeat of the Buenos Aires City government against Manuel Adorni, the candidate of La Libertad Avanza, the party led by President Javier Milei.

According to reporting by Letra P, the leader stated clearly: “I'm going to stay in Congress,” making evident her discomfort with the party's political direction in the City and her refusal to occupy a position she considers of less political visibility than the national Congress.

Underlying her determination are deep tensions within the yellow party. Although Lospennato's decision avoids giving up her seat in the Chamber of Deputies, it also prevents Lorena Petrovich, a figure aligned with Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, from entering.

With Lospennato's seat vacant, the person who would take office is the former Buenos Aires City Security Minister Waldo Wolff, sixth on the list and who had been left out by a small margin of votes. The situation becomes even more uncertain amid strong rumors that Hernán Lombardi and Laura Alonso—both elected—would not take office either, since they hold key positions in Jorge Macri's government.

If that triple withdrawal materializes, the beneficiaries would be Victoria Morales Gorleri, former national deputy, and Lautaro García Batallán, from Daniel Angelici's circle.

Lospennato's decision exposes the ideological and strategic differences within PRO, and puts the party's ability to renew its leadership in check amid a political scenario dominated by President Javier Milei's movement.
