Sora, the new artificial intelligence video generation app from OpenAI, reached one million downloads in less than five days. The milestone was achieved despite being available only in North America and under an invitation system.
The explosive growth puts it ahead of other launches, such as ChatGPT, and confirms the interest in generative AI applications in today's digital landscape.

Lightning success in the world of AI apps
Bill Peebles, head of Sora, confirmed that the app surpassed one million downloads before five days had passed since its launch. The popularity is due to its TikTok-like format, with vertical, infinitely scrollable videos caused by AI in real time from text prompts.
Although access is limited and exclusive to users with an invitation, the tool managed to go viral thanks to its ease of use and the interactive experience it offers.
How Sora works and the AI Slop phenomenon
Users can generate videos of up to 10 seconds by describing what they want to see, and Sora 2 takes care of the rest. This has fueled the emergence of the so-called AI Slop, massive low-quality content produced by AI but highly shareable.
