A broad investigation into cell phone theft and resale led to a joint operation at Galería Espacial, located at 51 Olmos Avenue. The action, led by the Córdoba Police, included about 40 raids on stores dedicated to the repair and sale of devices. Meanwhile, municipal and Epec inspectors detected serious electrical deficiencies and a lack of commercial permits.
The proceedings revealed that most of the businesses were operating outside regulations and that several seized devices were listed as stolen. In light of these irregularities, the Municipality ordered the total closure of the premises. The procedure is part of an urban control plan and a fight against illegal trade in the downtown area of the capital.
The police officers seized dozens of phones, unlocking tools, and spare parts without supporting documentation. According to the investigation, the devices came from thefts committed at concerts, dances, and mass events. Authorities confirmed that some of the devices will be examined to trace their origin and possible links to resale networks.
La acción, encabezada por la Policía de Córdoba, incluyó unos 40 allanamientos en locales dedicados a la reparación y comercialización de equipos.
A repeated operation
The detected method mirrors that used in other downtown galleries, where informal stores and resale circuits are combined. Galería Norte, located just a few meters away, had been closed weeks earlier for similar irregularities. In both cases, the procedures involved judicial intervention and support from security and urban control departments.
Investigators suspect that behind the stores operated a structure with its own logistics, aimed at refurbishing and placing stolen devices on the market. Among the items found were chips, cases, tools, and software to modify serial numbers. Sources in the case do not rule out new arrests in the coming days.
Se incautaron decenas de teléfonos, herramientas de desbloqueo y repuestos sin documentación respaldatoria.
Municipal authorities indicated that the closure will remain in effect until building conditions are regularized and the required permits are accredited. Epec, meanwhile, reported that it detected irregular connections and a risk of electrocution. Inspections will continue in other shopping centers in downtown Córdoba.
